Court Thorn Surgery is committed to providing a clean, safe and welcoming environment for patients, visitors and staff. We aim to minimise the risk of infection and maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the Practice.
We comply with the requirements of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 Code of Practice on the Prevention and Control of Infections and related guidance, together with current national infection prevention and control standards.
The Practice has a designated Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Lead who is responsible for overseeing IPC arrangements, monitoring standards and ensuring that appropriate policies and procedures are implemented.
To maintain high standards, we:
- Encourage patients and staff to raise concerns relating to cleanliness and infection prevention and control.
- Investigate incidents and implement improvements where required.
- Undertake regular infection prevention and control audits and develop action plans where necessary.
- Provide IPC training and updates for all staff.
- Review IPC policies and procedures regularly to ensure they remain up to date with national guidance.
- Maintain the premises and equipment to a high standard and ensure that clinical equipment is appropriately cleaned and decontaminated.
- Follow cleaning schedules for both clinical and non-clinical areas.
- Use disposable or washable materials wherever appropriate and ensure they are changed, cleaned or laundered regularly.
- Provide alcohol hand sanitiser throughout the Practice for staff, patients and visitors.
- Ensure appropriate management of clinical waste and sharps.
- Support staff through occupational health services and immunisation programmes where appropriate.
